This is my problem. I have a 14' abbrasive cut off saw a cheap one I bought at Lowes. When I cut 45 degrees angles as marked on the saw. Video of the Day. Place the angle iron you intend to cut on your workbench or other level, sturdy surface. Decide where you want to cut and use a paint pen to draw a guiding line on one side of the angle iron. Attach the 9-inch metal-cutting blade to the angle grinder. Plug in the angle grinder and put on your safety goggles.
1- Always wear extra eye protection. Safety goggles over eyeglasses is not enough. How those little hot sparky things got by the goggles and my glasses I don't know, but from here on out it's safety glasses, safety goggles and a full face shield. Those little hot sparky things go everywhere.
2- Always provide proper support for the work piece. A shaky sawhorse is not good. when the hot sparky things start flying and the sawhorse start shaking BAD things can happen.
3-And last but not least, always cover all exposed skin. Tennis shoes and a loose fitting pair of shorts is NOT proper attire for cutting angle iron. Did I mention that those little hot sparky things go EVERYWHERE?
I need to rethink this project, if Dominic can use 2X4's to support his ballast box why can't I?
I think I will return the uninjured angle iron to HD and buy some 2x4's.
I hate those little hot sparky things.

I have some slotted angle iron I'm using as legs to a standing desk platform and I need to cut them in half (). They were also cut sloppily from the vendor I bought them from. Lowes listed them as 24 inches although they are very clearly 24 inches plus/mines 1/18 an inch. This means I need to precisely cut the ends so the angle irons are all exactly the same size
- What tools could I have access to?
- What's the most practical thing I could do to get the job done?
- No idea what I'm doing (never cut metal before)
- I'm not going to buy anything (renting or whatever would be great)
- My dad has a hacksaw, and that's about it
- Angle iron specs> 2-ft x 1-1/2-in Plated Steel Slotted Angle
- Live at NC State University in Raleigh NC and over 21
Edit> Thank you all for the tips. You've been a big help
